Civil Aviation is a highly regulated industry offering a broad range of careers in the design, operation, maintenance and support of aircraft. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA regulates all aviation activity within Europe and delegates authority for implementation of its regulations to National Aviation Authorities such as the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA). Under these regulations, aircraft maintenance engineers are trained and licensed to maintain the aircraft to industry standards. The regulations define a number of categories for the licence based upon the range of work of /preferred discipline and aircraft type, and in each case, the engineer will need to complete training on the basic topics to qualify for a licence AND Type Training (theory and practical) for the specific aircraft.
AeCAT is a Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO) approved by EASA/UKCAA under EASA Part 147. We focus on the provision of the specific Type Training for the aircraft listed in our approvals. AeCat provides a variety of Airframe, Engine and Avionics courses ranging from General Familiarisation, through to fully approved B1 and B2 Type Training courses (both theory and practical). Details of the individual courses are included in the course catalogue, training by type and training by aircraft and planned courses are listed in the course calendar.
Variety of Airframe, Engine and Avionics Courses
Type Training
The Type Training provides an approved and acknowledged standard of knowledge of the aircraft and its systems to the levels required in EASA Part 66 Annex III. This training includes theoretical knowledge, simulator practice, and real-world experience.
General Familiarisation
The General Familiarisation courses, intended for management and general staff members, are non-Part 147 theoretical courses at the EASA Part 66 Level 1 level. They give a brief description of the operation, location and maintenance aspects of all aircraft systems.
Refresher courses
Refresher courses are focused on the requirements for technical staff to keep current and generally include an overview at level 1, briefings on modifications and SBs, and a detailed review of selected ATA Chapters.
Training Facilities
Theoretical Training
The theoretical training may be carried out in classrooms at the dedicated training facility registered in our MTOE, at the customer's site or at appropriate hired facilities as convenient.
Practical Training
The practical training meets the latest EASA regulations (1321/2014) and may be carried out on aircraft, in an EASA Part 145 facility and in classrooms at customer facilities or at appropriate hired facilities as convenient.
